Our Mission

WHO WE ARE

Becoming Love Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Douglasville, Georgia. We use storytelling, film, and creative practice to help people heal, reconnect, and create change from the inside out, with a special focus on young adults moving through housing instability and big life transitions.

OUR VISION

A world where every young adult gets to write what comes next

We picture a community where young adults know their story matters, have real skills to tell it, and have people around them who believe in the next chapter as much as they do.

HOW CHANGE HAPPENS

Everything we teach starts with one idea: what you believe shapes what you see, what you feel, what you choose, and what you live. Our programs give young adults the tools to notice that chain and rewrite it.

  • BELIEFWhat I tell myself
  • PERCEPTIONWhat I notice
  • FEELINGWhat it stirs in me
  • CHOICEWhat I decide to do
  • EXPERIENCEThe life I build

OUR VALUES

What guides us

How we treat people, every single time.

Dignity

Every person is treated with respect, no matter where they are coming from or what they are carrying.

Honesty

We tell the truth, keep our word, and are upfront about what we can and cannot do.

Courage

We make room for brave stories and brave choices, and we try to model them ourselves.

Excellence

Young adults deserve professional-quality training, gear, and mentors, so that is what we bring.

Joy

Creative work should feel alive. We laugh, celebrate, and make space for play.

Accountability

We take responsibility for our actions, our programs, and every dollar entrusted to us.

WHAT WE STAND ON

Five promises we make

to every person who walks through our doors

01

Your Story Belongs to You

You are not defined by what happened to you. You hold the pen, and we are here to help you use it.

02

Creativity Is How We Process

We use writing, film, and performance to reflect and grow. This is creative work, not therapy, and we connect people to professional support when they need it.

03

Real Skills, Real Doors

Every cohort leaves with experience they can put on a resume: screenwriting, production, teamwork, and time on a professional set.

04

Nobody Does This Alone

Mentors, artists, partners, and peers walk with every participant. Community is part of the curriculum.

05

We Show Up With Love

We keep our word, we keep showing up, and we celebrate every win, big and small.

In every lab, on every set, and at every event, these are the promises we keep.

MEET OUR FOUNDER

Tamala Baldwin

Founding Executive Director

Tamala Baldwin’s journey to Becoming Love Project began long before the organization had a name. Through her own experiences with heartache, healing, and starting over, she discovered the power of writing to help make sense of what we have lived through and challenge the stories we have come to believe about ourselves. Writing became a way to shift her perspective, reconnect with her own voice, and imagine a future that did not have to look like the past. That discovery would eventually become the heart of Becoming Love Project.

A writer, director, executive producer, and media executive, Tamala has spent more than a decade using storytelling across film, television, and social impact work. Her work has included projects for HBO, Disney/ABC Television, Hulu, OWN, BET, and other major platforms. She wrote and directed the BET Original Movie Blended Christmas and created Bubbly Brown Sugar, now streaming on Tubi. Her films have screened at festivals including the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival and have received recognition from the Newark International Film Festival, Micheaux Film Festival, Austin Revolution Film Festival, and International Black Film Festival.

Tamala founded Becoming Love Project to bring the power she discovered through storytelling to others, particularly young adults navigating major life transitions. Today, she brings together her experience as a filmmaker, educator, and organizational leader to create programs where young people can process what they have lived through, develop their voices and practical skills, and begin believing in what is possible for their lives. At the center of her work is a simple belief: the story of what happened to us does not have to become the story of what happens next.
